The Summary of first Season Carnivale

Genre: Drama / Fantasy / Mystery / Thriller

Actuallly I only need 3 days to finish first season of this HBO Series, but it seems I have not enough times to write the summary... here it is as I promise you...

Carnivale was an American dramatic television series produced by HBO. Created by Daniel Knauf, it starred Nick Stahl and Clancy Brown. The show ran from 2003-2005.

The series is a period drama set in the United States during the Great Depression. It has an overarching story about the battle between good and evil as well as the struggle between free will and destiny.

At the beginning of the first episode, the carnival's manager (a dwarf named Samson) says: "Before the beginning, after the great war between heaven and hell, God created the Earth and gave dominion over it to the crafty ape he called man... and to each generation was born a creature of light and a creature of darkness... and great armies clashed by night in the ancient war between good and evil. There was magic then. Nobility. And unimaginable cruelty. And so it was until the day that a false sun exploded over Trinity, and man forever traded away wonder for reason."

This quotation offers a glimpse into the show's subject matter and framework.

The story consists of two main plot lines that are slowly converging. The first involves a young man with strange healing powers named Ben Hawkins, the "creature of light," who joins a travelling carnival when it passes near his home in Milfay, Oklahoma. Soon thereafter, Ben begins experiencing strange dreams and visions, and finds himself on the trail of a man named Henry Scudder, a drifter who crossed paths with the carnival many years before... and who apparently possessed unusual abilities similar to Ben's own. Scudder is eventually revealed to be Ben's father.

The second plotline revolves around a Father Coughlin-esque Methodist preacher, Brother Justin Crowe, the "creature of darkness," Ben's opposite and his ultimate nemesis. Justin is also learning the extent of his strange powers, which seem to include the ability to bend human beings to his will, and to make their sins or "greatest evils" manifest in the form of terrifying, traumatic visions. Justin experiences surreal, prophetic dreams similar to those of his young counterpart.

HBO Home Video have released both seasons of Carnivale on DVD. Both season sets feature extra features, including episode trailers, audio commentaries and documentaries. I bought second season of carnivale in BB Plaza Kuala Lumpur for RM 60. Quite Expensive for counterfeit DVD, but I can't hardly wait to watch the finale...

Yoga

few days ago i'd registered for energik power yoga instantly. there's no plan before, me and my mother join the class 3 days a week. they said that yoga can bring the body, mind and spirit into balance and harmony.

certainly i know that yoga poses have been developed over centuries of research and experience. they have been found to be extremely effective in:
  1. Increasing flexibility of the body and freeing all the energy blocks. Besides increasing flexibility, this leads to a healthier body.
  2. Helping to lose excess flab and weight - another cause of ill health.
  3. Massaging the internal organs of the body and the rarely stimulated parts such as the thyroid gland.
  4. Helping to treat several health disorders - from common ones such as backaches and arthritis to 'seemingly' unrelated disorders such as stammering.

"It is recommended to include some form of yoga positions and preferably a yoga routine in your life."

when we talk about yoga, we can detached with breathing theory and meditation. what is meditation?... i think only budhisme have it for the prayer..

Meditation

An ordinary person may consider meditation as a worship or prayer. But it is not so. Meditation means awareness. Whatever you do with awareness is meditation. "Watching your breath" is meditation; listening to the birds is meditation. As long as these activities are free from any other distraction to the mind, it is effective meditation.

Meditation is not a technique but a way of life. Meditation means 'to join together or to yoke' . It describes a state of consciousness, when the mind is free of scattered thoughts and various patterns . The observer (one who is doing meditation) realizes that all the activity of the mind is reduced to one.

A Tibetan Lama was being monitored on a brain scan machine by a scientist wishing to test physiological functions during deep meditation. The scientist said - "Very good Sir. The machine shows that you are able to go very deep in brain relaxation, and that validates your meditation". "No", said the Lama, "This (pointing to his brain) validates the machine!".

These days it is commonly understood to mean some form of spiritual practice where one sits down with eyes closed and empties the mind to attain inner peace, relaxation or even an experience of God. Some people use the term as "my gardening is my meditation" or for jogging or art or music, hence creating confusion or misunderstanding.

The word meditation, is derived from two Latin words : meditari(to think, to dwell upon, to exercise the mind) and mederi (to heal). Its Sanskrit derivation 'medha' means wisdom.

Many years ago meditation was considered something just not meant for modern people, but now it has become very popular with all types of people. Published scientific and medical evidence has proved its benefits, but it still needs to be much understood.

Traditionally, the classical yoga texts, describe that to attain true states of meditation one must go through several stages. After the necessary preparation of personal and social code, physical position, breath control, and relaxation come the more advanced stages of concentration, contemplation, and then ultimately absorption. But that does not mean that one must perfect any one stage before moving onto the next. The Integral yoga approach is simultaneous application of a little of all stages together.

Commonly today, people can mean any one of these stages when they refer to the term meditation. Some schools only teach concentration techniques, some relaxation, and others teach free form contemplative activities like just sitting and awaiting absorption. Some call it meditation without giving credence to yoga for fear of being branded 'eastern'. But yoga is not something eastern or western as it is universal in its approach and application.

With regular practice of a balanced series of techniques, the energy of the body and mind can be liberated and the quality of consciousness can be expanded. This is not a subjective claim but is now being investigated by the scientists and being shown by an empirical fact.
